Scratch Your Own Itch

People ask what’s your inspiration, and being the selfish person I am, it usually revolves around me. How’s that for a circular answer.

It goes deeper than that :)

I have problems. Knewmismatic was how I addressed what I saw as my problems:

  1. Could not find auction records in one place
  2. Could not find variety and patterns in one place
  3. Message boards were the only “social” medium in the industry
  4. Pictures were hosted on some g*dforsaken free image host
  5. The visual aspect of coins was not given it’s proper place
  6. I Could not find show information, what dealers would be there, without going to every dealer show website out there.
  7. Clubs. It’s 2009 and clubs were run like 1995.

I thought that I’m not the only one with them….

That was my starting list. I’ve tried to to articulate, refine, , translate into software, get some feedback. I’ve always tried to go for the minimum, I missed that mark with knewmismatic, but it showed how badly I did that.

I used to think that I would not do enough, but I realized with Knewmismatic, I took on too much, some of my (not collector, or dealers) problems were too broad, almost check list type of items. Forums is the best example, I should just cut it to one for support requests.

  1. News is ok, but I need to slim it down, add filters to reduce RSS noise. People can’t add their own feeds easily.
  2. Dealers I actually have the problem sketched out how to address just busy
  3. Clubs, I need to start from the start…. I should almost remove it. It’s a huge problem for me. There is a real need here that I must address.
  4. Many clubs need more than google groups, but don’t have the resources to build there own.
  5. Collections, I actually love, just need to make easier. Easier imports….probably have to figure out bulk loads.
  6. Coins is where I started, put most of my time and where I’m focused on.
  7. Varieties and Patterns. I chose those b/c I was interested and not many people had attempted to do it on a broad basis. A lot of here’s my favorite coin type variety.
  8. I like big transformational problems.

With that rant, I leave you with a link…
